Here are my essential tips to help you stay in the game safely and effectively.

1. Always Warm-Up and Cool Down Never underestimate the power of a proper warm-up. Gentle aerobic exercise followed by dynamic stretches (stretches involving movement) prepares your muscles, ligaments, and tendons for the demands of your sport, increasing blood flow and flexibility. Similarly, a cool-down period involving static stretches (holding a stretch for a period) helps your body recover, reduces muscle soreness, and improves flexibility over time. Make these non-negotiable parts of every workout.

2. Progress Gradually Whether you’re starting a new activity or increasing the intensity of your current routine, do so gradually. Pushing your body too hard, too soon is a leading cause of overuse injuries like tendonitis or stress fractures. Incrementally increase the duration, intensity, and frequency of your workouts, allowing your body adequate time to adapt and build strength.

3. Master the Correct Technique Learning and consistently using the correct technique for your sport is crucial. Incorrect form can place undue stress on specific joints or muscles, leading to injury over time. Consider working with a coach or watching instructional videos to ensure your form is correct. Proper technique not only prevents injury but also improves your performance.
